De Duinhuisjes Open-Air Museum

Openluchtmuseum De Duinhuisjes in Rockanje consists of four original small dune farmhouses with outbuildings from 1850 to 1910. Labourers, market gardeners and small farmers lived here, and you can see what life in the dunes was like around 1900.
What can you expect at De Duinhuisjes?
- History: The museum opened on 28 April 1990 to preserve the history of western Voorne. In 1993 a small farm cottage that stood by the Kreekpad around 1860 was rebuilt here. The museum is run by the Historische Vereniging Westelijk Voorne.
- The cottages: Three cottages are furnished as around 1900; the fourth hosts changing exhibitions. Volunteers tell the story of the houses and their residents, and a film shows the life of the dune dwellers.
- Activities: There are many themed days, such as living history, a flea and plant market, a costume show and a farmers' wedding. Children can enjoy kids' afternoons and a mouse hunt trail.
